I AM YOU

" You could hear how the music changed its colour and with fine drops it exuded through thin walls of huge grasses, flowing down from their long stalks and falling into chasm. Upon reaching the far end they would break up into thousands of little bells, which spelled the words of the fundamental hymn. The world truly is a beautiful place when every one of its inhabitants is busy with their own creation, of something, which is totally new and absolutely essential to everyone else. If you listened closely enough you could hear how the music spoke of simple and indisputable truths: “I am you!” We are a homogeneous and an indivisible whole. This understanding is the source of our strength and our happiness. If you do not wish to be deceived do not make yourself any plans. Do what you do and come what may!"

Music is a universal langue and the exploration of I Am You surely relays this message. In this tale, a musician recounts the emotions that welled within him when a dear friend of his in Copenhagen sends him a song via email that captivates him completely. It wasn’t solely the notes that captured his attention either, but an underlying message that seems to coast on the notes of tunes the idea of a universal consciousness that connects all of us. With this idea in mind, such music can make mankind finally comes to terms with a truth so many if us wish to denounce: we need one another. As we become more individualized and compartmentalized, we rush into our homes and barely talk to our neighbors. This sad byproduct of industrialization has caused us to distance ourselves. Industrialization aside, there are many reasons why mankind has come to this place. Man is sentiment being who has the ability to build complex societies. With this is ability; he can strive towards a more spiritual place or one that is more “me” oriented. Because man does have an inherently selfish side, it seems that we increasingly lean towards serving our own needs. To this end, many of us fall by the way side to be trampled upon.

But the message in the music found in the story of I AM YOU reminds us that we do not have the luxury to be self-serving. Every time we turn our back on our fellow human begins, we turn our back on ourselves. Any man or woman who believes that we are somehow a single unit complete and whole unto ourselves is sincerely deluded. While yes, a puzzle piece is still a puzzle piece on its own; it becomes part of a grander picture when it connects to a compatible piece. When enough pieces joined together, we can create a thing of incomparable beauty. We are all but puzzle pieces to that end and as the song so sweetly sings without words “I AM YOU” is a concept that can align man forwards the destiny that he was meant to uphold. One of service and sacrifice. As Einstein said, “Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile”. What we cultivate we receive, and rightly so as this is justice. In the end however, we must never forget the flow of the words hidden beneath a silent melody. When all else fails mankind, remembering the words “I AM YOU” is what will save us.
